The Lesson
The Lesson by Toni Cade Bambara is about a group of intercity poor children that get taken under the wings of Miss Moore. A nappy hair with proper speech and no makeup. She takes the children on a outing to a fifth avenue toy store. The price of the toys cost more than all the childrens families meals for a year. The lesson taught by doing this was not everyone is equal although we are taught that everyone is equal. Even in the childrens small social cicrle not everyone is equal.

Becky Evans
Hello to all, my name is Becky Evans. I am a proud Mother of 2 great teenage boys and blessed wife of 17yrs. I decided at the grand age of 36 that it was time for a new career and went back to school and received my GED in November and started college today : ]. My family and I as you can see love to travel, and have been able to see a fair number of states. In that picture we are in the beautiful state of Colorado. We have lived on our farm North of Springfield for the past 7 yrs raising cattle and I couldn't be happier.
I am new not only with schooling [ its been almost 20 yrs lol], but even more so with the computer so please bear with me. I have always been old school, but I do enjoy learning new things. My end goal when school is over is to be a Physical Therapy Assistant. I have been in the medical field for the last 13 yrs, and truly enjoy it. Our Boys are older and now its my turn.
My Husband and I have been together since elementary, and have been as I said married for 17 yrs. He is a fantastic Man, and gives a lot to make this happen. He is the hardest working man I have ever met, and My Best Friend. This is My life, and I look forward to seeing everyone on Wednesday have a great night.
Quang Vu-Introduction
Hello everyone, my name's Quang Vu and i am from Vietnam. I was lived here in United State for almost five years since 2009. Now, i am living with my parent and one little brother. I am major in Electrical Engineer and this year is my sophomore at college. I decide to transfer to MS&T but i still need to take some more classes before i can go anywhere else.
At my spare time, i like to listen to music, play online game, watch funny clips on Youtube and play guitar. About sport, i am a big fan of soccer team such as Barcelona and Manchester United. During Summer, i always play soccer with my friend every Saturday evening. And go to fishing when i have time.
I can eat all kinds of food, even it spicy or salty. But i like "Pho" the most. And I don't think everyone know it accept for people who had went to my country or went to Vietnamese restaurant.
In the future, i hope that i can improve my English skill better and finish my degree.
Perry Stoops - Introduction
Hello everyone, I'm Perry Stoops. I was born and raised in Plano Texas, the youngest child of three at nineteen years old with my older brother and sister being thirty-seven and thirty-five respectively. I moved to Springfield about 8 months or so ago, both to get away from Texas and because of nearby family, and this is my second term at OTC. Currently I am going for a transfer degree in education and hope to teach history. I have a strange fascination with quotes and am an avid reader, especially of sci-fi with my favorites being Star Wars and Halo.

William Buehler- Introduction
Hi everyone my name is Will Buehler, I am form Saint Louis but I have spent most of my life here. I want to finish up here this semester and transfer to Missouri State or UGA(University of Georgia). I want to get a degree in business fiance and eventually start up my own restaurant. During the summer I pretty much live at the lake. I enjoy wake boarding, water skiing, and fishing down there. I play a lot of golf year round depending how cold it is though. The one thing I want to do before I die would have to climb Mt. Everest before I get too old.
Kathryn Tohill - Introduction :)
HI! I’m Kathryn Tohill and this is my second semester at OTC. After OTC, I plan on transferring to Missouri State University to pursue my degree in Sociology. I really enjoy working with little kids, and I hope to one day be able to help disadvantaged children. I moved around quite a bit (Belgium, Germany, and Texas) during my childhood until we finally stopped here in Missouri when my father retired from the military. We started off in Waynesville but then moved to a small town (Dixon) when I was in the 6th grade. That was the last time my family moved. I graduated from high school (class of about 50) this past year. I played soccer in high school and really enjoyed it. I was in a few clubs (FCCLA, Arrive Alive) which allowed me to do other things that I really enjoy. In FCCLA, I got to bake and make some other little things which I really enjoy doing. I’m definitely a motivational quote person. My favorite quote would have to be “Always follow your heart.” This is a quote that once I found, I have always followed and I couldn't be happier! I love my little kitty to! I've missed her since I've moved down to Springfield, but love going home and seeing her! And that’s pretty much me!!!
Lindsay Dale - Introduction
Hello everyone! My name is Lindsay Dale and I was born and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada. I recently moved here about two years ago and this is my third semester here at OTC. I am majoring in Culinary Arts; I love to cook and to create my own twists on dishes and recipes. I have decided when I graduate I will start my own food truck business, to treat people to high quality food wherever you are!
When I have spare time I love to spend my time watching my favorite Sci-Fi television show, "Doctor Who". On another note, I have a slight obsession with my Xbox 360, if I said I like to play video games that's putting it mildly...
Cassandra Asbury- Introduction
Hello everyone! My name is Cassandra. I am 26 years old. I was born in Kansas City and raised in South Texas. I have lived most of my life in Corpus Christi. In high school I was very athletic. I was a cheerleader, volleyball player and a wrestler. I enjoy staying busy. I am divorced with no children. My ex husband is a Corpsman in the Navy. We are still good friends to this day. I am not one to really let people know about my personal life, so I plan on keeping this as simple as possible. I am going to school in hopes to get my RN. I also plan to get my Surgical Technician degree once I have completed the RN program.
Something that everyone may want to know about me; i do not like working in groups. I have had bad experiences with it. I would complete my work and the other person would be a slacker or we would not agree on anything. I have my opinion, as you do also, and I refuse to settle for something in which I do not think is right or I do not like. If I do not like any of the choices I am offered, I will chose the one that I like the best, but I will stick to my beliefs and what I think is best for me.
I am a positive person who sees the good in everything and everyone, At least I try. I do not like negative people or people who are always trying to out do the next. I think that everyone is blessed in their own way and there is always someone out there who has it worse then you.

Paul Jackson - Introduction
-Quote from Theodor Seuss Geisel
Hello everyone, my name is Paul. I'm originally from Arlington, Texas, though I've moved several times in my life, from Texas to Montana, then Colorado, a year in Washington (the state, not the city), then back to Colorado for a few months last summer before I moved to Springfield. My favorite place I've lived is probably Bellevue, Washington, since it's a big city intermingled with nature, and there was literally a forest in my backyard.
I have two half-brothers and a step-brother, all much older than me, my parents are divorced, and I have at least nine nieces and nephews that vary in age from toddlers to high school age.
I enjoy the art of storytelling, both fictional and nonfictional, though the former is generally more interesting to me. I have been an avid reader all my life, played video games since 2000, and I have lost count of how many webcomics I check regularly. If I had to pick a favorite of each, it would probably be the Artemis Fowl series, The Legend of Zelda: The Twilight Princess, and Surviving the World, respectively.
Amber Arellano - Intro
Well, my name is Amber Arellano. (not an Italian last name, it's Hispanic and the '"ll" make a "y" sound)
I am 19 years old and this is my 4th semester at OTC. I was home-schooled my whole life and since I finished high school early I thought it would be great to get a head start on the path to my future career. I have one more semester then I can begin the dental assistant program here at OTC. I am very eager to get my future started and I have always been like that ever since I was a little girl.
I still live at home with my parents, and hey, why not take advantage of a roof over my head and food on the table for free? I have an older sister and a younger brother. I also have a boyfriend of 1 1/2 years that I love with my whole heart. I have had a lot of people tell me that I am too young to know what real love is, but when you know, you know. Sorry to get all sappy, but I can't help that I love this kid. Well, I am very much looking forward to this semester with everyone!

Victoria Hyde Introduction
Hello everyone, my name is Victoria Hyde. I am nineteen years old. I am currently going to school to become a Special Education teacher. I have always had a special place in my heart for special needs children. I grew up in the small town of Clever and graduated as a 13 year senior.
When I was in high school I competed in many FBLA competitions earning first in my district, and advancing to state three years in a row.
Another big part of my life is music. I started learning to play percussion (drums) when I was in fifth grade. I instantly loved playing music and went on to be lead snare my Sophomore year, and drum major my Junior and Senior year for the Clever Blue Jay Marching Band. I also had the opportunity to travel to Orlando, Florida and march in a Disney parade. If I could go back and do it all over again, I would! My band instructor and peers are still a big part of my life to this day. I just recently started learning to play guitar too.
I have the most loving family, boyfriend (in the picture above), and a adorable dog named Oscar. You could say that my family and I spoil him a little too much. You will never see him without a sweater on! I am a big family person. You won't find any bigger Chiefs fans than my family. Every Sunday we get together to watch the Chiefs play, hang out, and just enjoy each other's company. My Mom and Aunt are twins and are also two of my best friends. They both have always been there for me through everything. I am blessed with great people in my life.
Honestly, I have tried almost every hobby there is. I enjoy doing new things all the time. I just recently learned to crochet and just got a sewing machine for Christmas. I will try almost anything there is to try. I also love being outdoors. I love camping, fishing, and going out to shoot some guns. One of my favorite things to do is to ride roller coasters. The best one I have ever ridden was New York, New York in Las Vegas. Overall I am open to anything and am always looking for new adventures.
I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you!
Jessica Sidebottom - Intro
Hi everybody!
I'm a shorty with blonde hair and have lived in Missouri all my life. I love it here and even though we have such crazy weather changes the constant differences make it interesting to live in Missouri. I am also the middle child of three, and overall we all get along really well. I am fortunate enough to have most of my family live near me, which means I can hang out with my sister all the time. We're actually pretty good friends, and I rely on her most of the time.
After high school I really didn't know what I wanted to do as career. I decided to look into the medical field and I found physical therapy to be extremely interesting, so I did some job shadowing and I loved it! Therefore I'm working my way to a physical therapy assistant degree. I can't wait to get into the job field, and start helping people accomplish their goals or health needs!
One of the things that I really enjoy is baking, especially while i'm watching a movie or TV (I'm a little bit of a multitasker). The funny thing is that I'm actually a terrible cook, so all I can really make is pastries and bread. Another thing I love is coffee shops. I love being able enjoy the atmosphere and smell of coffee around me, and I love the hum of conversations while I work. The majority of the time you'll probably find me in any one of the many coffee shops that Springfield has to offer.
Katie Pittman - Introduction
Hi, my name is Katie Lynne Pittman. Originally I am from Huntington Beach, CA , and recently moved here to Springfield, Mo. A fun fact about myself is that I am a twin! I am the older twin, (by one minute!) and we are identical in almost every way. Being a twin isn’t as fun as it looks, it definitely has its ups and downs, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. Being a twin is the best thing ever and I love it to death. Another thing I love so much is fashion and makeup. I love beautifying everything, even making my own scarves, headbands and skirts. Ever since the age of 5 I have been a vegetarian. Animals are another one of my favorite things in this world. Owls, lions, and bears are my ultimate favorite, though. When I finally graduate with a degree in nursing, my twin and I want to move to St. Louis and go to fashion school. It seems like that won't be for a very long time.
Becky (Lee) Harlan -Introduction
Hello there. My name is Rebecca Harlan, but I go by Becky. I was born in Michigan and raised in Arizona. Big climate change I know. My family and I moved from Arizona to Missouri in 1999. I just fell in love with it here and I do not plan on moving anytime in the near future. I recently got married to a wonderful man in December. Together we have 9 kids, which only 5 live with us. There is never a dull moment that passes with that many children. I had my first child in 1998 so I never graduated high school. Instead I chose to be a stay at home mommy. Four children later some circumstances came up and I made the decision to get my GED. I studied for the test in May and in June I passed it with no problems. I then set a goal to start college in the fall. I was very excited and nervous at the same time because I had no idea what to expect. I kept asking myself "What am I thinking? It had been over 14 years since I was in school." I did not give up though. I got through the Fall semester with good grades while working and taking care of my children on my own. Here I am now on my second semester and feeling so good about myself. I feel I am on the right track continuing my education and living out my life dream of becoming a RN. I can not wait to see what the future holds for me.
Ben Bowden
Hello everyone, my name is Ben Bowden, and yes it is said like the coach, Bobby Bowden. As for me, this is my second semester here at this college. I have a few brothers that are all older than me, so of course that makes me the baby of the bunch; yet, I am the only one of all of us that is a supervisor at a business where my job is mostly about talking, literally. My favorite food is of course, is mostly meat and some forms of sweet things, like ice cream or cookies. I do not like soda, microwaved food, most vegetables, or people whose parents have given them almost everything, and they have not had to work for nothing, yet try to show-off what their parents paid for. I also do not party, drink, use any illegal substance, or do anything in which I can foresee to get myself in trouble. I go all the way in whenever I know there is a reward waiting at the end, and I am not the greatest at blogging. I do live in Missouri, always have and probably always will. Currently, looking at moving to anywhere outside of state just does not seem feasible, at this current time. And to be honest, that is all I can share for now. In my final thoughts, here is how I feel most of the time…
Jennifer Carlson
thient

Hi everybody, my name is Thien and I am from VietNam. I graduated from high school in my country then moved to the US with my parents some years ago. It was hard for me at the beginning to leave in the country even though I had learned English in high school; I am all better now. I am the only boy along with other sisters in my family, so it makes me kind of intrapersonal person even though I have been trying to make friends. I have been living in several places before moving to Springfield; I love it here. When I was a child, I always wondered what snow looks like; this is the first place I have experience of snow. Playing with snow is kind of fun but It is really cold; it will take me more than two weeks to recover from a cold.
The picture above is described a part of my life. Mine is colorful same as the picture; I have been moving to more than fourteen places in my whole life, which giving me opportunities to understand lives around.
I like to listen to music, play games on the computer, and bike when I have free time. Right now, I am taking care of a pot of ferns that I planted for a research last semester.

Tri Ha - Introduction
About Me:
Since I have some free time this Sunday. I might as well go first.
For those planning on reading this my name is Tri. Its actually pronounced T. Like T-Pain without the Pain.
I'm from the southern coast of Asia called Vietnam. Politically Communist, but more capitalist if you ask me.
My family moved to the United States in 1992 and lived in Missouri ever since. I come from a family of five, not including my parents. I have three older sisters and one older brother. Being the youngest in the family, I wasted majority of my youth partying and drinking alcohol. Now that reality has finally settled in, I'm ready to finish what I started. My dream was to be an FBI agent working for the government, but I can settle for a steady job with a Bachelor Degree in Chemistry.
The reason I posted this picture was pretty simple. I love cooking. After picking up my old hobby of bodybuilding. Cooking my meals to reach daily calorie intake or my macros has been a habit. I typically check Foodgawkers.com for recipes.
Welcome students! I hope you have had a nice holiday season and are raring to go. For you first assignment, I want each of you to post a 200-300 introduction about yourself to this blog. Please include at least one picture that corresponds with the introduction. Then, I want you to read and respond to 7 other posts. Please do not respond to posts that already have seven responses. This will ensure that everyone gets responses to their post. This assignment is worth 25 points and is due Wednesday January 16th.
About Me
I am a native Kansan although I have been in Missouri since 1990. I come from a large family where I have nine brothers and sisters. I am married and now enjoying my life long dream to be a teacher. I went to college after my two children were grown and the financial burden of raising a family eased. I enjoy learning new and interesting things. I was self employed in several businesses before deciding to get an education. I received a Bachelors of Science degree from Missouri Southern in Joplin. In 2009 I completed my master's degree through Missouri State. I wrote my master's thesis on using technology in the classroom to increase student motivation and performance. For four years I taught English to juniors and seniors in a small rural school. This semester marks my third year here at OTC.

I love life and many times wish there were more hours in a day. I have many interests. I enjoy gardening, swimming, hunting, reading, watching movies, South Park, old rock 'n roll, traveling, learning new things, and many others. One of the greatest joys of my life has been the births of my granddaughters Kelea and Sheridan.
